Jet Engine Test Cell

This is believed to be the first ever Jet Engine Test Cell constructed from precast concrete.

Originally designed as an in-situ concrete building, this project was adapted to 'tilt-up', resulting in a 10% cost saving and an eight week time saving.

The safety requirements mean no repairs can be made to the internal surfaces of the walls which make the detailing critical in a project like this.  The facility needed to have 500mm thick solid walls that were capable of withstanding an exploding jet aircraft engine. Accurate design, construction and construction supervision were critical throughout all stages of this project.

The overall structure needed to achieve acoustic noise reduction to meet environmental, health and safety legal requirements.
